Capital Bronson Community & The Wing

Confederation Heights masterplan & CBC building reuse and addition

2023 | Ottawa, Canada

Capital Bronson Community is a mixed-use masterplan designed around the presence of the former CBC headquarters, as well as the preservation of the protected woodlot. Low-rise L-shaped buildings radiate off the existing grid and form inner courtyards, while protecting the view of the CBC building along Bronson Avenue. High-rise towers are staggered along a terraced plaza and follow the large slope across the site. In total, the proposed site hosts 2114 people (245 PPH) with a total of 1297 units (150 UPH), to meet transit-oriented design guidelines.

The former CBC building is repurposed for student housing, with a rooftop cafe. The Wing proposes an addition hosting a lounge and study spaces. The gently curved roof and connecting pavilion intend to bring the plan of the existing building into the facade of the addition. The materiality of The Wing is a further ode to the palette of the CBC heritage building.
